HDM wrapped up its Healthcare Analytics symposium in Chicago on Tuesday, July 19. The event was chaired by former editor Greg Gillespie. Presentations Tuesday focused on how analytics and big data are being used in specific areas to bring improvements to provider operations and in delivering better care to patients. Gary Conkright discusses how predictive analytics lies at the center of his company's products and helps personalize care delivery for patients.<\/p>

The panel discussing the Future of Healthcare Analytics: Perspectives from the Front Line of Innovation, gets a question about reality checks for new products from Alan Eisman, HBI Solutions.<\/p>

Chief Analytics Officer Charlton Park tells about the evolution in the use of data and analytics at the University of Utah Health Care, and how it enabled the organization to achieve value-driven outcomes through the use of actionable data.<\/p>

Advocate Healthcare has been able to use its analytics capabilities to study the question of medication adherence and the effects it has on care delivery. Darcy Davis, data scientist for Advocate, discussed some of the results.<\/p>

Attendees took time throughout the event to interact with representatives of companies that enable healthcare organizations to analyze data for a variety of purposes.<\/p>

For providers, lengths of stay have a lot of impact on the success of care, and they can be used to look at potential impacts, such as mortality and readmission rates. M. Joseph Grennan Jr., MD, medical director of care management at UPMC Passavant, discussed some of his organization's research into findings.<\/p>

Sessions on population health and the role of analytics in enabling hospital performance were among the most highly attended for the event. Here, Patrick A. Charmel, president and CEO of Griffin Hospital, discusses how his organization has been able to find partners to improve the quality of data and achieve better results in population health.<\/p>
