ONC\u2019s 2019 Interoperability Standards Advisory (ISA) Reference Edition<\/a> is intended to enhance the flow of electronic healthcare information. It represents the agency\u2019s current assessment of the HIT standards landscape and reflects the many changes made to the document throughout last year.

According to the agency, it received 74 comments on the ISA in 2018, which resulted in almost 400 individual recommendations for revisions.

\u201cIf you\u2019re new to the ISA, you will find it contains a variety of standards and implementation specifications curated by developers, standards gurus and other stakeholders to meet interoperability needs,\u201d writes Steve Posnack, executive director of ONC\u2019s office of technology, along with Chris Muir and Brett Andriesen, in a blog.

\u201cThe ISA should be considered as an open and transparent resource for industry, and reflects the latest thinking around standards development with an eye toward nationwide interoperability,\u201d they add.

Although it is a dynamic document updated throughout the year, ONC officials describe the 2019 Reference Edition as a \u201csnapshot\u201d PDF view of the current ISA.

\u201cYou need to remember that this 2019 Reference Edition is available if you want a static version of the ISA that won\u2019t change,\u201d write Posnack, Muir and Andriesen. \u201cThe ISA traditionally has reflected recommendations from the Health IT Advisory Committee and its predecessors, the HIT Policy Committee and HIT Standards Committee, and includes an educational section that helps decode key interoperability terminology.
