Many consumers will be slow to adopt new technologies, leaving FS firms to support passwords alongside newer approaches to authentication. Also, consumers may balk at having to manage multiple approaches to authentication across different providers (e.g., financial services, health care and digital content).I would eventually expect a convergence of authentication technologies, but in all likelihood this will take some time. Consequently, FS firms face the risk of moving too quickly into technologies that may fail to gain mass-market traction.However, the far larger risk would be to do nothing.
