Through the vendors\u2019 initiative, physicians who are concerned about the affordability of medications for their patients can review prescription pricing at the point of care while also creating personalized plans that match patients\u2019 needs.

\u201cAccess to valuable pricing information gives healthcare providers the opportunity to provide their patients with updated information on the most appropriate and cost-effective medications before they reach the pharmacy,\u201d says John Peterzalek, chief client officer at Cerner.

The collaboration enables providers to view prescription benefit information inside the Cerner EHR, before medication is prescribed to the patient.

\u201cIt is difficult for providers to have informed discussions with their patients that would help drive medication adherence when they don\u2019t have accurate visibility into prescription price information and available assistance programs,\u201d says Miranda Gill, RN, director of clinical innovation at CoverMyMeds.

The new service includes integrating the information into the clinical workflow at no charge.

CoverMyMeds supports more than 500 electronic health record systems and works with 62,000 pharmacies, 700,000 providers and many insurers and pharmacy benefit management firms.
